Our clear instructions will help you to make your own unique Harlequin Willow Tree.  They can be planted and grown in the ground or in a pot.

As with larger living willow structures, you plant freshly cut willow in winter – when it will root readily – and it will sprout new growth in the spring.

We will supply you with trimmed willow whips (as shown in the first photograph above) plus ties, raffia and instructions.

The second photograph shows an example of our kit WK-H24 (just finished with some flexi ties still attached) which uses double planted whips .  . . .

. . . in the Spring your woven tree will be showing new growth – the third photograph above (taken in the May after winter planting) shows an example of our other kit, WK-H36, which uses triple planted whips.

We provide 2 kits** that can be ordered in our online shop – both can be sent with EVRi (formerly Hermes) at a cost of £4.00 or collected by appointment  :-

We supply Salix Purpurea ‘Abbey’ or Salix Purpurea ‘Lambertiana’ (both, basically, have a greenish stem colour) and also Salix Triandra ‘Norfolk’ (which has a much darker stem colour).

You can see the difference in stem colours in these photographs – and we also got these amazing catkins on the Salix Triandra ‘Norfolk’ ones we planted ourselves !

If you have a preference as to variety/stem colour, please let us know know in the Customer Notes section as you place your order online. You can also mix varieties as shown here.

** We have only listed kits with 1 m long trimmed whips in our online shop – these can be sent (more economically) with EVRi (formerly Hermes).

We can provide longer trimmed whips to make taller harlequin willow trees but they will either need to be collected from the Nursery or sent with the carrier at a much higher delivery cost – if you are already ordering a living willow structure kit then there will only be one delivery cost.

Please get in touch if you would like more information about longer whip kits.

These photographs show double and triple planted harlequin willow trees – using various lengths of willow and at various staged of growth.

Those with more growth were planted mid winter and have started to get established, whilst the tallest one is only just showing new growth, having been planted at the end of the planting season – as with larger living willow structure kits, planting is a winter project only.
